This week my agent made an editorial comment - I know she's said this before - but I suddenly heard it new.

That made a happy place for me! I just needed to be in the right frame of mind to hear the words.

And thanks, too, for your great presentation!! I spin every comment to my best advantage, liberally sprinkling in extra praise like "your hair looks nice today." Think what you will, but it's important to create your own happy place!Cynthia Leitich Smithhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07650058326282279022noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7393935615165680996.post-10879771451046614132008-11-18T12:32:00.000-08:002008-11-18T12:32:00.000-08:00That's so right, Kim! I think writers who are new to the process hear more negatives, and have a hard time realizing how important that first page can be.

(I say that having revised my novel's first page at least 20 times in the last 48 hours, and now I'm thinking about starting with another scene entirely...)

Thanks for your terrific presentation!Janet Foxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12752283432227153795noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7393935615165680996.post-65207466703270842522008-11-18T12:06:00.000-08:002008-11-18T12:06:00.000-08:00I'm so glad you said this, Janet. There were plenty of positives about all of the first pages we read, and I hope the authors heard those, too. But I stick by my main answer to the question, "What ARE you looking for?"--books we can love, articles we can love, stories we can love. Isn't that what all readers look for?Kim T.
